MCA-M Validates Social and Institutional Analysis for More Inclusive Transport in Mozambique

The Millennium Challenge Account – Mozambique (MCA-M), in partnership with the Ministry of Transport and Logistics and with technical support from Application Européenne de Technologies et de Services — ATES, held a validation workshop for the Social and Institutional Analysis of the Transport Sector on Tuesday, 31 March, in Maputo.

The study was conducted by ATES under Compact II, through the Connectivity and Rural Transport Project — CTR, and brought together experts, public decision-makers and technical specialists to discuss and validate the results achieved in 2024.

The analysis highlighted some of the sector’s main challenges, namely:

  • unequal access to transport services, particularly for women, elderly people and persons with disabilities;
  • reliance on informal and costly transport by vulnerable groups;
  • limited integration, within national institutions, of technical knowledge acquired through international projects;
  • limitations on, or exclusion of, local labour in projects implemented within communities;
  • high risks of harassment and violence against women and girls in public transport.

During the workshop, participants reinforced the need for stronger institutional coordination, continuous updating of sector data and the effective inclusion of vulnerable groups in public policies.

This meeting marks an important step towards building more inclusive, safe and sustainable solutions for Mozambique’s transport sector.
