MCC Promotes Training on Fraud and Corruption Prevention under the New Compact

On 17 March, the Fraud and Corruption Prevention training began, led by the Millennium Challenge Corporation — MCC, bringing together teams from the Millennium Challenge Account — MCA, partners and other stakeholders involved in the implementation of the new Compact.

The training aims to strengthen the principles of transparency, integrity and accountability in the implementation, management and oversight processes of activities funded under the Compact.

The opening session was attended by His Excellency Salim Ismael Valá, Minister of Planning and Development, and the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the United States of America in Mozambique, Abigail L. Dressel, who reaffirmed the commitment of both Governments to good governance and the safeguarding of public resources.

On the first day of the training, the main topics covered included:

  • zero tolerance for fraud and corruption;
  • mandatory reporting of suspected misconduct;
  • ethics, integrity and management of conflicts of interest;
  • strengthening of control mechanisms and risk prevention.

During the session, Abigail L. Dressel stated:

“Fraud and corruption are not victimless crimes.”

In turn, His Excellency Salim Ismael Valá emphasised:

“It is our duty to promote transparency and integrity as the foundation of good governance.”

More than a training session, this initiative represents an essential step towards strengthening control mechanisms, identifying risks and ensuring the effective, transparent and accountable implementation of the new Compact.

Zero tolerance. Full commitment.
