MCA Mozambique Strengthens Support for Wildlife Economy and Sustainable Conservation
On 8 and 9 April, the city of Maputo hosts the Wildlife Economy Conference in Mozambique, a platform for reflection and knowledge-sharing on the sustainable future of the sector.
MCA Mozambique is participating in the event through its Executive Director, Augusta Maita Mendes, and the CLCR Project Director, António Queface. The initiative is funded by MCA Mozambique, with MCC funds, and forms part of the activities of the CLCR Project under the new Compact, implemented through a grant to BIOFUND and the Mozambican Association of Safari Operators — AMOS.
During her remarks, MCA Mozambique’s Executive Director, Augusta Maita Mendes, stated:
“Our expectation is that this conference will allow for a deeper discussion of strategies to boost this sector, strengthening institutional and community capacities with a view to building a sustainable economy in Mozambique.”
The opening session was attended by His Excellency Roberto Albino, Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries; the Secretary of State for Land and Environment, Gustavo Djedje; the Director-General of the National Administration of Conservation Areas — ANAC, Pejul Calenga; and the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of BIOFUND, Carlos Santos.
This conference represents another important step towards strengthening the link between conservation, communities and sustainable economic development in Mozambique.
